A day after the Himalayan quake shook Bihar too, the death toll on Sunday rose to 51 with a powerful tremor hitting the State again in the afternoon creating panic among residents. In view of regular aftershocks since Saturday, all schools in Bihar have been closed for two days from Monday.

To monitor the situation, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held meeting with top officials on Sunday again and later told journalists that 45-50 people have been killed in the quake in Bihar so far.

“Government officials are on full alert and all measures are being taken to help the affected people,” said Mr. Kumar.

So powerful was the fresh tremor that hit the State at 12.42 p.m. that the Chief Minister himself came out of the meeting. People rushed out of their flats and houses.
