Bid to kill Ishrat’s relative in Mumbra

February 19, 2013 02:20 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:56 pm IST - MUMBAI:

An attempt on Monday to murder Munna Sahil, a relative of Ishrat Jahan — the girl who was killed in the alleged fake encounter by the Gujarat police — failed after two bullets fired at him hit his car.

Two assailants, who approached Mr. Sahil’s car on motorbike, fired at his direction at Retibandar area in Mumbra. A worker of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Mr. Sahil is also a builder and owns a hotel in Mumbra.

He was in the forefront of a campaign against the Gujarat police which claimed that Ishrat Jahan was a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative who had entered Gujarat to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

“We cannot come to the conclusion that the attack was related to his involvement in Ishrat Jahan case. But it seems the attack was more to scare him than to kill him,” said NCP MLA Jitendra Avhad.
