At a time when land acquisition remains a major hurdle for companies in West Bengal, the Bengal HCCI Infrastructure has got 400 acres through a new model in the Howrah district to set up an industrial cluster.
Under the new model land was acquired by the Howrah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and handed over to the Bengal HCCI, a joint venture firm between the Howrah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the West Bengal Industrial Development Corp.
The WBIDC holds 11 per cent in the project and the rest is held by by HCCI.
“In order to avoid a Singur-like controversy, we have decided neither the JV company nor the state government will acquire land,” Bengal HCCI Infrastructure Managing Director S K Sanyal said.
“Out of the proposed 500 acre in the first phase, we have acquired 400 acre,” Mr. Sanyal told PTI.
Once the land was developed the company would hand it over to members depending on the industrial sectors they were in.
The industrial plot will have three clusters for rolling mill, foundry and allied engineering.
The project is expected to be ready in the next three to four years, Mr. Sanyal said.
