Former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress government on Saturday for its failure to generate employment, saying that not a single new factory was set up since the Left Front was voted out of power.
“What is the State government doing? They are busy in indulging in festivities and organising cultural events claiming to have completed 90 per cent of work. They are clueless about what the job of a State government [is],” he said. Mr. Bhattacharjee was addressing an election rally organised by the Nadia district Committee of the Left Front at Ranaghat.
“After we (Left Front) were voted out of power, not even a single new factory has come up in the State. Whatever is there were set up by us during the last eight to 10 years of our tenure”, he said.
Slamming the Trinamool for spoiling the efforts of the previous Left Front government for industrialising the State, Mr. Bhattacharjee said that if the steel factory in Salboni in Paschim Medinipur district and the Tata Motors small car factory in Singur had come up both the areas would have turned into prosperous industrial townships.
He also accused the ruling party of ruining his efforts in convincing software companies like Wipro and Infosys to set up units in the State.
“The State is steadily going backwards. The farmers are committing suicide for not getting adequate price for their crops. But the State government is not bothered about their plight at all,” said Mr. Bhattacharjee.
“The lack of safety of women in the State is a matter of shame for all of us. There has not a single conviction in any case of atrocities against women,” he said.
