Bengal blamed for potato farmers’ suicide

As the suicides of potato farmers continue in West Bengal, experts and opposition leaders criticised the Trinamool Congress government for banning supply of potatoes to neighbouring States.

They said the decision defied financial logic and had contributed to the low prices leading to the suicides.

So far about 17 have committed suicide in the State.In 2013, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee imposed a ban on supply to other States to curb rising prices in West Bengal.
