PANAJI: The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) on Wednesday announced a week-long dharna across the State between June 26 to July 2 to protest against the Goa government’s failure to support primary education in regional languages.
“The token dharna will be to protest against the betrayal of the regional languages, Konkani and Marathi, by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar by failing to implement a medium of instruction policy in favour of regional languages, and instead continuing government grants for English medium primary schools of the archdiocese,” said BBSM convenor Subhash Velingkar.
The BBSM is an RSS-dominated movement spearheading the cause of regional languages as medium of instruction at the primary level.
Mr. Velingkar and former MLA Uday Bhembre on Wednesday accused the Parrikar government of stifling Marathi/Konkani language education in the State.
