Bangladesh Foreign Minister, Dipu Mani would pay a two day visit Tripura from November 10 and lay the foundation stone of a Bangladesh liberation war memorial in a park in South Tripura district, official sources said today.
Sources said, a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Thursday has reviewed the arrangements of the proposed visit which was also attended by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Jitendra Chowdhury.
India is constructing a war memorial of the Indian soldiers and liberation warriors of Bangladesh who fought in 1971 in a huge park at Chottakhola in Belonia subdivision of the South Tripura district, bordering Bangladesh.
Industries and Commerce Minister said during the liberation war, a base camp of the Mukti Bahini was set up to launch bush war against the Pakistani soldiers in Chittagong, Noakhali and parts of Comilla districts of the neighbouring country.
The Bangladesh foreign minister would also lay the foundation stone of a bridge over the Feni River, which runs between India and Bangladesh in south Tripura district.
Construction of the bridge was a part of the agreement signed during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Delhi this year.
The bridge would provide surface link between the Chittagong port and the north eastern state of Tripura. The port is about 75 km from Sabroom, a border town in Tripura’s South district.
