The country-wide bandh called by 13 parties, including the Left, on Tuesday forced the Eastern and South Eastern Railway to cancel and detain a number of trains.

Both up and down trains of Asansol—Howrah Intercity Express, Howrah—Ranchi Shatabdi Express, Black Diamond Express, Ganadevata Express, Hool Express and Coal Field Express were cancelled, ER officials said.

Only up trains of Kanchengunga Express, Dhanbad—Patna Express, Poorva Express and Toofan Express were cancelled.

Stating that 32 long—distance trains were stranded at various stations, they said the 2314—Dn Rajdhani Express to Sealdah was stranded at Asansol and the Howrah—bound 2302—Dn Rajdhani Express at Dhanbad.

Other stranded trains include Dn Kanchenjunga Express at Barddhaman, Dn Kamrup Express at Srirampur, Dn Dibrugarh Town—Chennai Egmore Express at New Farakka, Dn Amritsar Mail at Chittaranjan, Dn Kalka Mail at Andal, Dn Doon Express at Durgapur and Up Hatey Bazare Express at Malda Town.

SER officials said, Howrah—Puri Dhauli Express, Howrah— Purulia Jan Shatabdi Express, Tata—Howrah Steel Express and Howrah—Secundrabad Falaknama Express were cancelled.

Trains detained at various SER stations include Mumbai— Howrah Mail at Uluberia, Yeshwantpur—Howrah Express at Panskura and Puri—Howrah Sri Jagannath Express at Kharagpur.

EMU services had begun since early morning, but became seriously affected after the bandh began at 6.00 am, they added.
