The Badrinath shrine will reopen on May 3 this year, President of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee Ganesh Godiyal said on Tuesday.
In a deluge that rocked the State in June last year, the roads the four shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri were severely damaged.
Though, after two months of the deluge, temporary arrangements were made for the pilgrims to travel to the shrines, the roads still need to be reconstructed to ensure a safe travel.
Mr Godiyal said, “It is a challenge for the Temple Committee and the State government to conduct a smooth pilgrimage for the pilgrims. We, along with the State government, will make sure that the pilgrims have a safe pilgrimage.”
“The approach roads to the shrines that were destroyed in the deluge last year need to be reconstructed. We have three months for all the necessary preparations and we will finish the work in the given time,” Mr Godiyal added.
According to Mr Godiyal around 10 lakh people visit the Badrinath shrine every year.
“We will make sure we can accommodate all pilgrims this year,” Mr Godiyal said.
