Badal forms panel for women safety in public transport

May 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - Chandigarh:

The Punjab government on Monday constituted a five-member panel to suggest steps to ensure safety of women passengers in the view of Moga molestation case that embarrassed it and put spotlight on women’s safety in public transport.

The panel will include State Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Principal Secretary (Transport), Secretary Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes and Additional Director General of Police, a government spokesman said.

Constituted on the directions of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the panel would assess ground realities to suggest measures for safety of passengers, especially women commuting in the public transport system.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within a month, the spokesman added. - PTI
