Crediting the people of Punjab for the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party combine's good show, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday said the development agenda and maintenance of peace in the state during the past five years helped them.
The SAD will now decide on electing its leader in Chandigarh on Thursday and the next Chief Ministerial candidate will be announced after due consultations with the leadership of its ally, the BJP.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “It is the people's confidence in Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's leadership and the work done by him that led to SAD-BJP victory in Punjab.”
While the Chief Minister said, “I am falling short of words to thank the people of the state”, Mr. Sukhbir Badal thanked the people of the State “for reposing confidence in the SAD-BJP combine, which created history by repeating a government in the State.
“The credit for this victory goes to the people of Punjab,” said the Chief Minister.
Party president Mr. Sukhbir Badal said, “People have voted for performance”.
The Badal senior also credited his son for playing a big role in this victory, saying he had put in a lot of hard work to plan their campaign well.
“I am fully satisfied with his performance as party president. He has worked really hard and I appreciate that,” said Mr. Parkash Singh Badal.
Talking about the decimation of Punjab People's Party (PPP) in the Assembly elections, Mr. Badal said, “Manpreet has committed a Himalayan blunder and political suicide when he quit the SAD.”

@ Tejinder, I completely agree with you. Offering sweet to a picture of a man, is such an illiterate and uneducated spectacle. We boast of democracy to the outside world but looking at these leaders, I just like to puke instead of being proud of our democracy. The democracy which has leaders like MMS, Sibbal, Chidambaram,Sharad Pawar, Kalmadi and A Raja and Sonia on ruling seats, and billions of money in bank accounts abroad. This is just farce of democracy and nothing else. These people have now got license of looting country for another 5 years and if they would have not elected then turn of loot would have gone to some other party. They are happy because they got chance to stash money abroad for 5 years in their bank accounts. I am sure, none of them have clue what they want to do for the welfare of people though they are supposed to be servant of people.
Just looking at the picture, it is like seeing a dystopian image of a
screwed up society. Offering sweets to the picture of a man, worshiping
him like a deity, all the while intoxicated by the sweet dreams to loot
the state for another five years, it makes me sick to see the farce to
which Indian democracy has been reduced to. Not one of the faces in the
image inspires any hope but only a resignation to continue with this
farce for another 5 years.
The thing to do is trace all large transfers of funds from international banks to India. The mystery of this victory will be solved.
