In an indirect attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Narendra Modi on Wednesday said Bihar was in a dismal state due to poor governance and politics.

“Bihar is not poor, but kushasan [poor governance] and a bizarre political culture have ruined the State. There is a lot of talent in Bihar,” the BJP prime ministerial candidate said in response to a question during his Chai Pe Charcha campaign.

During the videoconference, Gopal Prasad Yadav, a former national-level swimmer and now tea vendor here, posed the question to Mr. Modi about Bihar’s poverty.

Mr. Kumar has made the idea of ‘good governance’ the hallmark of his politics.
