For a district that has been constantly fighting its label of a haven for terrorists, the conviction of Shahzad Ahmad in the Batla House encounter case comes as a huge disappointment.

Residents of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh's impoverished eastern region fear that the verdict might establish the district’s unhealthy image. “We are not satisfied by the verdict,” said Shisa, Shahzad's younger sister. “We shall approach the High Court and if still we don't get justice, we will go to the Supreme Court.”
