Two Army officers, including a Colonel, were killed after being caught in an avalanche at Ghastoli area near Mana Pass in Chamoli district, official sources said Tuesday.

The avalanche struck when the two — Col Puran Chandra and Maj Mahesh — both from Kumaon regiment, were returning after climbing the 24,000-feet-high Kamet Hill last evening, they said.

The Army officers were part of a 44-member expedition team. Other members of the team are safe, they said.

The bodies of the two Army officers are being flown to Joshimath area of Chamoli.
