The police on Monday arrested a Shiv Sena leader for indulging in vandalism during the riots in Aurangabad.

Aurangabad police said that Pradeep Jaiswal, who was an MP in 1996 and an MLA in 2009, was held on charges of assault and vandalism for creating a ruckus on Sunday night at Kranti Chowk police station. He allegedly demanded the immediate release of two Shiv Sena activists who were taken into police custody for taking part in the riots. An officer said, “When the personnel on duty denied permission, he smashed the glass on the table and threw chairs around the station.”

Mr. Jaiswal was booked under Sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
