An attempt to bomb the office of the Manipur unit of the BJP onn Saturday morning was foiled by the timely detection of an unexploded bomb, which was planted near the main gate.

The powerful foreign-made bomb, which had a remote control device, was stuffed in a vegetable hand bag and was planted near the main gate.

Police immediately blocked the traffic and removed it for a controlled explosion. No underground organisation has claimed responsibility.

Party workers suspected political motive behind the attempt. The BJP state unit has been demanding drastic actions for a long time against the alleged corruption of the Congress government.

Besides, the state unit president Chaoba Thounaojam has been saying that his party will demand the imposition of President's rule. He will be visiting Delhi soon to press his demand.

Police have beefed up security measures near the BJP office.
