Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Brig. (Retd) Jagdish Gagneja, who was shot at in Jalandhar in Punjab, continues to be in a critical condition and was shifted to a hospital in Ludhiana on Sunday. The BJP, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have condemned the attack, and alleged it was an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere in the State.

Mr. Gagneja, admitted to a private hospital after he was shot thrice near the Jyoti Chowk in Jalandhar on Saturday, was shifted to Hero Heart DMC Hospital in Ludhiana on Sunday.

Doctors have removed two bullets but a third one is still in the body and he continues to be in a critical state, senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia told presspersons.

The Punjab Police have set up a four-member special investigation team.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal condemned the attack, and directed the police to track the attackers. Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh alleged that Mr. Badal was responsible for the current state of affairs where people were feeling insecure.
