Eighty-eight-year-old Congress veteran N.D. Tiwari on Wednesday tied the knot with Ujjwala Sharma, the mother of Mr. Tiwari’s biological son Rohit Shekhar, in a low-key affair at his residence here. Mr. Tiwari and Ms. Sharma have been involved in a protracted legal battle over Rohit’s parentage.
Expressing her happiness after the sudden turn of events, 67-year-old Ms. Sharma said the marriage was suggested by Mr. Tiwari.
“He wanted to give social sanctity to our relationship, which was very old,” said Ms. Sharma, a retired lecturer, on Thursday. The couple will soon complete legal formalities.
Mr. Shekhar was present among the guests at the wedding. He had taken Mr. Tiwari to court after the former Andhra Pradesh Governor had refused to acknowledge him as his biological son.
The long-standing paternity tussle came to an end in March, after Mr. Tiwari accepted Mr. Shekhar as his son.
However, the drama was not to end there. Ms. Sharma recently staged a dharna outside Mr. Tiwari’s high-security residence, alleging that the security personnel were trying to prevent her from meeting the senior Congress leader.
She even filed an FIR against Bhawani Bhatt, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Mr. Tiwari’s residence who allegedly forced her out of the house late on April 17.
She was subsequently let in and started living with the veteran leader.
