Assembly proceedings disrupted over police recruitments

March 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - LUCKNOW:

The proceedings of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly were disrupted by the Opposition parties on Tuesday over the issue of recent police recruitments in the State with the job aspirants forced to take to the streets in protest against the alleged anomalies. The Opposition demanded a judicial, or a CBI inquiry into the alleged discrepancies in the recruitment process.

The Government’s view of the recruitments having been conducted in an impartial manner failed to cut ice with the Opposition parties. Dismissing the Opposition charges as baseless, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan said only the deserving persons have been selected. Mr. Khan, in fact, congratulated the new police recruits on behalf of the State Government.

The Bahujan Samaj Party, BJP and Rashtriya Lok Dal staged a walkout. Later, as the BSP MLAs sat on a dharna in the Well of the House along with the BJP, Congress and RLD MLAs, the House was adjourned by the Speaker, Mata Prasad Pandey. As the Opposition parties continued to create a din when the House reassembled after 100 minutes, the Speaker completed the proceedings and adjourned the Assembly till Wednesday.

Raising the issue through an adjournment notice in the Zero Hour, Satish Mahana of the BJP said the anger among the candidates following the results of the main examination of the police recruitment was quite palpable. He said the job aspirants have alleged that discrepancies were committed in the examination and protests have been held in Lucknow, Allahabad, Kanpur, Bhadohi, Baghpat, Mainpuri, Rampur and other districts. Mr. Mahana said undeserving candidates have been selected. He said while candidates scoring less marks have been called for the medical examination, those with maximum marks have been left out. He said the examination should be cancelled.
