Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana and Maharashtra will be held in a single phase on October 13. Counting of votes will take place on October 22, the Election Commission said on Monday. The notification would be issued on September 18.
The last date for filing nominations was September 25. The papers would be scrutinised on September 26 and the last date for withdrawals was September 29. The election process would be completed by October 25, Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla, along with Election Commissioners S.Y. Quraishi and V.S. Sampath, told journalists here.
The model code of conduct had come into force with immediate effect and it would apply to all candidates, parties, the State governments and the Union government.
The poll date was fixed after considering climatic conditions, the academic schedule, festivals, law and order, availability of Central police forces, time needed for movement and proper deployment of forces and ground realities.
Term of Assemblies
The term of the Arunachal Assembly ends on October 24, while in Maharashtra, the tenure was to last till November 3. In Haryana, though the House had term till March 20 next, it was dissolved by the Governor on August 21 on the recommendation of the State Cabinet.
In Arunachal, 59 seats in the 60-member House are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. In Maharashtra, it is 29 for the Scheduled Castes and 25 for the STs in the 288-member Assembly. In the 90-member Haryana House, 17 seats are reserved for the SCs.
The total number of electorate in Arunachal is 7,50,575, in Haryana 1,20,63,257 and in Maharashtra 7,56,34,525. There will be a total of 2,061 polling stations in Arunachal Pradesh, 12,894 in Haryana and 82,028 in Maharashtra.
