Luxury jungle lodge ‘Diphlu River Lodge’ in Kaziranga National Park of Assam has been judged the first runners up in Best Wildlife Resorts of India category by the Lonely Planet Magazine’s Travel Awards 2013 (May edition).

’Diphlu River Lodge’ sources on Sunday said the award was won based on stringent parameters of user experiences of the lodge which maintains high standards of quality service and its contribution to sustainable and responsible tourism.

The Lodge provides premium service to both international and national visitors to Kaziranga National Park, they said.

Stating the recognition brought the entire North East Region into focus, the sources said, the luxury jungle lodge set up in January 2008 was a pioneering venture by prominent husband-wife tourism industrialist duo Ashish Phookan and Jahnabi Phookan under the aegis of Assam Bengal Navigation Company.

Their other innovative venture - river cruise in Brahmaputra - has earned them the Indian National Tourism Award for Innovation in 2004-05.

The second runners up award of the Lonely Planet has been bagged by Mahua Kothi of the Taj Group at Bandavgarh in Madhya Pradesh and the winner is The Oberoi Vanya Vilas at Ranthambore.
