The Union government has despatched over 1,000 CRPF personnel to restore peace along the disputed boundary of Assam and Nagaland in Golaghat.

While the force earlier manned nine posts, nine more have been set up.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi accused the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of inaction, and said the Home Affairs Ministry had failed to provide adequate security. At a press conference in Guwahati, the Chief Minister accused the Centre of not taking the prevailing situation on the Assam-Nagaland border seriously, a charge the Centre denied.

“The Central government is not playing the desired role,” Mr. Gogoi alleged.

Not a single official from the Centre had been sent to the affected areas, he said.
