Personnel to be deployed in Bodoland district, Karbi Anglong & Dima Hasao
The Assam government will raise a special security force for deployment in affected areas such as the Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) and the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. It has also decided to deploy a special force for seizure and recovery of illegal weapons in BTAD and other areas. Besides, to augment security deployment in BTAD, the State has sought 50 additional companies of paramilitary forces from the Centre.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told journalists here on Thursday that details of the proposed special security force for the conflict-hit areas would be worked out soon. He said people affected by recent violence in BTAD had urged the government to provide them firearms for self-protection.
“However, we will provide them security by deploying a special force,” he said. The government had also drawn up a plan for increasing the number of police stations and police outposts in BTAD. Mr. Gogoi said people in conflict-affected areas would be given preference in recruitment to the proposed force.
Mr. Gogoi said a permanent rehabilitation commission would be set up for taking care of children orphaned by ethnic or communal clashes or insurgency and counter-insurgency.
Meanwhile, the death toll in terror attacks has gone up to 40.
