Assam Governor celebrates Gudi Padwa

Assam Governor P. B. Acharya and his wife Kavita Acharya on Friday celebrated Gudi Padwa, also known as Yugadi or Warsha Pratipada, at the Raj Bhavan here.

The first couple of the State celebrated Gudi Padwa, a festival celebrated in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telengana and Andhra Pradesh, by performing puja, distributing prasad and hoisting the flag of the festival, a Raj Bhavan release said.

Stating flags are hoisted in every household throughout the four States, the release said a different name is given to the festival each year and its name this year is Durmukhi. - PTI
