Ruling Congress retained Lakhipur Assembly constituency of Assam as its candidate Rajdeep Goala defeated his nearest BJP rival Sanjay Thakur by 9172 votes. Mr. Goala garnered 40,090 votes, while Mr. Thakur got 30918 votes, election office said.
The seat was held by Rajdeep Goala’s father Dinesh Prasad Goala whose death necessitated the by-poll.
