PTI Self-styled Godman Asaram Bapu comes out of the District Sessions Court where he was produced after his arrest, in Jodhpur on Sunday.

The 72 year old self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, accused of sexually assaulting a sixteen year old girl, was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a court in Jodhpur on Monday.

The police delared that Asaram was medically fit, contrary to his own insistene, and said there was a very strong case against the godman.

After being remanded to judicial custody, Asaram was taken to the Jodhpur central jail amid heavy security.

Before boarding the police van, the godman told his supporters (audible on the microphone of a news channel) to “be patient...do meditation...everything will be alright”.

“During the investigation, the allegations levelled against him were found to be true,” police officials told journalists in Jodhpur.

When asked whether the police had to bring the victim for identification, the police said there was no need for that.

“Bringing the victim here was never a part of the investigation. It was not required at all,” said officials.

Earlier, a team of doctors from Jodhpur's Sampurnanand Medical College had declared Asaram completely fit.

“He is perfectly ok...mentally and physically fit...(his claim of having a neurological illness) has been proved to be a lie,” DCP Jodhpur Ajay Pal Lamba told reporters.

On Sunday evening, a potency test was conducted on the godman, which he “passed”, the police said.

He was also taken to the Manai ashram, about 30 km from Jodhpur, for a recreation of the scene of crime.

When asked during the investigation as to why he had arranged for the girl and her family to stay at the farmhouse, away from the ashram, he reportedly said it was to ensure they stayed in comfort.

Asaram himself has refuted the charges levelled against him by the girl, who is an inmate of his Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) gurukul.

The girl had alleged that the godman had sexually assaulted her at a farmhouse in Jodhpur on independence day and had filed a FIR at New Delhi's Kamla Market police station a few days later.

The case was subsequently transferred to the Jodhpur police, which arrested him from his ashram from Indore, late on Saturday night.

Oh Now please Stop calling him a GODMAN / We need to realize that God resides in them who respect The GodMen that is Everyone living on this planet. We must come out of such superstitions now and He must be hanged for such a crime.

Police should avoid a media trial and stop giving statements in public as it will vitiate the trial process . Police job is to investigate and gather evidence to make out a case that stands before the court of law and It is for the judiciary to weigh the quality of evidence and pass the verdict. It is no ones job to pass verdict.

In Mahabharata, Yudhistur, while responding to one of the 'yaksha prasnas', says that if a pundit, who is well read and well informed, commits dacoity, he should get more severe punishment than the professional dacoit. Same thing should apply to the Guruji, if the allegations are proved in the court of law.

This man is just another petty criminal, who just gave empty statements to avoid arrests. Thats the best policy in this country. commit a crime, then blame the government, other religious communities, your political opponents etc for it to evade the punishments

As long as 'so called swami's follwers' keep trusting these kind of frauds, people like Asharams will continue their assault. How many of them have been assaulted in his career til 72. Only God knows. It is the high time, let people trust the Creator not so called godmen.

It was against such Godly men and their godly activities that Mr.Narendra Dabholkar was fighting and for which he was ultimately done away with. Still people follow such supposedly menofgod blindfolded and get themselves and their children into trouble. One remembers the statement that Asaram had given at the time of Delhigangrape that she should have pleaded those men to be brotherly towards her and not assault her. And in this context one wonders how the 16 yr old girl could have pleaded to Asaram so that he could change his mind and look at her with grandfatherly eyes.

What strong case? Either there is a case or no case. Thus far this has been just police and alleged victim's family statement. This nation and its media are notorious for its short term, sensation focused and politically biased coverage. From Bofors to 2G, Rajneesh to Asaram, Indira to Sonia....just muck raking and no one ever proved or disproved anything. Leave people guessing....

So far it is not established medically whether the girl was indeed assaulted or not, things could go either way.

If a person has committed a crime you investigate , file a chargesheet and get him convicted . Why does the police keep on issuing statements as to what they are going to do and that they have a strong case and how will investigate. When such things are done by a public body we get to feel that this is an instigated arrest more politic al in nature.

This is the time for follower/ supporter of Asaram need to wake up and come out from blindfolded superstitious image of Asaram. There is serious lodgment against him. Obviously it is not first time he is facing allegation but probably this is serious and strong case. Still many things (right/wrong) need to come to know as days pass. Only people can trust to our legal and justice system that reality will come true. There is case of 2 children murder case of Gujarat also waiting for justice. Only we can wait for time that whether this VIP "Sant" will get clean chit or that girl will get justice.
