The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested three persons in connection with the attack on BJP leader Brijesh Teotia. The main accused, however, is still on the run.
The UP Special Task Force made the arrests from Muradnagar area of Ghaziabad district, reports said. Police will give more details in a scheduled press conference later on Wednesday by IG Meerut.
Armed assailants had opened fire at BJP leader Teotia’s vehicle last Thursday evening in Ghaziabad. Mr. Tevatia received six bullet injuries in the incident and is currently admitted in hospital. He had contested the 2012 UP Assembly elections.
The police claimed to have solved the case and have so far suspected personal animosity behind the attack. However, they are probing all angles. Two dozen persons, including a woman constable, were already detained in the case.
Police recovered the getaway vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, along with the weapons used in the attack, including an automatic rifle and a pistol in a field 6 km away from the crime scene. According to the police, the vehicle, which was registered in the name of a company in Gurgaon, was stolen on June, 8.
