A lower court in Patna on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against former Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) chairman Lalkeshwar Singh and his wife Usha Sinha in the Class 12 results scam. Both have been named as accused in the case and are absconding.

Patna Chief Judicial Magistrate Om Prakash issued the arrest warrants against the couple on a plea by police.

Mrs. Sinha is the principal of a local girl’s college and an ex-MLA representing the Janata Dal (United). Inquiries by the police show that she too was actively involved into the irregularities at the BSEB and was quite influential in its affairs. A special investigation team of the police on Wednesday arrested two people, including Lalkeshwar Singh’s private secretary, and are making continuous raids to arrest the couple.

However, the buzz in the town is that both might have gone to their son’s place in London but, the police denied it.Ample evidences

“Prima facie there are ample evidences against Lalkeshwar Singh. Proof of tampering in the exam copies and evaluation have been found which was in the knowledge of the ex-BSEB chairman,” Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj, who heads the SIT to probe the scam, had said.

Meanwhile, the new BSEB chairman Anand Kishore on Wednesday suspended 22 employees for dereliction of duty. The employees were not found at their places during a surprise inspection by him. Mr. Kishore has assured that the BSEB would be rid of its malaises as soon as possible. Earlier, the issue of large scale irregularities in BSEB had hit headlines when two of the Bihar Intermediate exam toppers Ruby Rai and Saurabh Shresth were caught on camera for not answering even the basic questions from their subjects. Later, when the probe was ordered the police filed FIR against several persons, including three topper students who too are absconding.
