In a case of fratricide, an army jawan was gunned down by his colleague, who flew into a rage and began firing indiscriminately after a quarrel with him in Doda district early on Saturday.

A quarrel broke out between two jawans of 8 Rastriya Rifles (RR) M.P. Yadav and Gurjan Singh when a road opening party of the troops was sanitising Doda-Kishtwar road at Neerojal-Pul, 170 Kms from here this morning, a senior Army officer said.

There were heated exchanges between the duo following which Gurjan Singh took out a rifle and began firing indiscriminately on his colleagues, killing Yadav on the spot, he said.

However, other colleagues of the two jawans overpowered Singh and took away the rifle from him, said the officer, adding that he has been taken into custody and a court of inquiry ordered into the incident.

Yadav’s body is being shifted to his native place in Maharashtra, he said.
