Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda, heading a BJP-led coalition government, won the trust vote in the Assembly on Tuesday, three days after he was sworn in. He secured 45 votes, and 30 members voted against the motion.

The strength of the House came down to 80 from 82 after the deaths of Congress MLA Gopal Nath Shahdeo and nominated member of the Anglo-Indian community Joseph P. Galstaun.

Mr. Munda also got the backing of Glen Joseph Galstaun, whose nomination to replace his father was approved by the Cabinet on Monday evening.

Since the Assembly is being renovated, the one-day session was held at the Administrative Training Institute.

On September 11, Mr. Munda had taken the the oath as Chief Minister. All-Jharkhand Students Union president Sudesh Mahato and Jharkhand Mukthi Morcha leader Hemant Soren also took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers.
