January 01, 2014 01:00 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:12 pm IST - Guwahati:

A protest similar to the one at Zunheboto is brewing in Jonai subdivision in upper Assam’s Dhemaji district with hundreds of people joining the police to flush out cadres of the militant National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) by destroying the makeshift camps set up by the outfit on the chars and chapori (isles) of the subdivision.

Hundreds of people assembled at Mechaki chapori on Monday and issued a public notice to the NDFB (Songbijit) cadres to immediately quit Jonai. An appeal was also issued to the people not to give shelter to any militant. A meeting held at the chapori also demanded that NDFB (Songbijit) hand over the outfit’s cadre who allegedly raped the wife of a local politician in the sub-division on December 18.
