The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party criticised the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Trinamool Congress on Thursday for attempting to divert the people's attention from pressing issues such as fuel price hike and food inflation by raising a hue and cry over the Lalgarh rally on Monday.
It also demanded the suspension of Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee if she failed to clarify her statement about the “murder” of Maoist spokesperson Azad made at the rally.
“Both the CPI(M) and the Trinamool Congress are behaving as if the situation and problems prevailing in the three south-western districts of the State reflects the situation in other parts of the State as well. None of them is interested in addressing more serious issues like rise in prices of essential commodities and fuel that is directly affecting every citizen,” Rahul Sinha, president of the State BJP, told The Hindu .
Accusing both the parties of supporting the Maoists at different points of time for gaining political advantage, Mr. Sinha said the State and its people were the ultimate losers in this tussle for power.
“Earlier the CPI(M) had supplied arms to the Maoists to capture Keshpur and Garbeta in its bid to regain control over the areas from the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. Now the Trinamool Congress is using the same tactic to wrest control of the region in which it has a weak presence,” he said.
