The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Sunday ordered a probe into exam results for this year’s entrance tests for MBBS and BDS after suspicions were raised over the results from a particular centre in south India.
Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen (Retd) Zameer Uddin Shah constituted a 3-member committee to probe the allegations of tampering after more than 30 candidates from an entrance centre in South India cracked the test. About 50,000 candidates appeared for the entrance test for the two courses which have in total 180 seats.
“There is a possibility that technology of high quality was used by some candidates to crack the tests. We want to get it probed,” a university spokesperson told The Hindu . The probe committee includes former V-C of RTM Nagpur University Prof. S.N. Pathan; former VC of University of Hyderabad Prof. E. Hasnain and M.K. Sherwani, a former civil servant.
The spokesperson said the use of technology to tamper with the merit-based entrance tests had been an issue of concern for all universities.
“The AMU is concerned at any possibility like this but before taking a final view over the allegations and suspicion over the entrance teat results, the university will wait for the Supreme Court verdict in a similar case reported from Haryana,” the spokesperson added.
