Aligarh Muslim University has registered a complaint on Friday against a Hindu Yuva Vahini leader for hate speech.
Sunil Singh, the Uttar Pradesh chief of Hindu Yuva Vahini called Aligarh Muslim University "nursery of terror" while addressing a meeting of the outfit’s workers in Aligarh on Thursday.
"AMU is nursery of terrorism. Students of AMU have links with terrorist organisation like ISIS. Only by shutting down AMU can the problem of terrorism be solved in the country," said the Hindutva leader.
Hindu Yuva Vahini is a Hindutva group founded by BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath.
Responding to the controversial statement, the AMU registered a complaint against the HYV leader for hate speech in Civil Lines Police Station.
"The State chief of HYV has made the baseless allegation about students of AMU having links with terror groups like ISIS. AMU is a secular institution. Constitution of India has certified it as institute of national importance," says the complaint filed by the university.
"The statement of Mr. Singh seems like an attempt to disturb the communal harmony of AMU and Aligarh and malign the image of the university community which includes people belonging to all religion alike," the complaint added.
Surya Kant Dwivedi Inspector of the police station said: "We have received a complaint against Sunil Singh. We are trying to collect the audio and video of the event. We will take action after verifying the complaints".
Student of AMU took out a peaceful march against the Hindutva group and its leader on Friday. Submitting a memorandum to the President through the ADM Aligarh, they demanded the HYV to be banned and its State chief be arrested for hate speech.
