BJP president Amit Shah held a series of meetings with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and other leaders on Friday to discuss preparations for the Assembly polls to be held later this year.
According to party sources, Mr. Shah discussed political issues, apart from preparations for the polls and new programmes and events to be launched by the State government and the party in order to galvanise the cadres. BJP sources said the party hopes to win 150 out of 182 seats in the State.
Party insiders said that Mr. Shah and his team have started assessing every seat and performance of the incumbent legislators.
“Currently, seat-wise assessment is being carried out,” a senior party leader involved in the process told The Hindu .
Meanwhile, BJP general secretary in-charge of Gujarat, Bhupendra Yadav, and organising secretary V. Satish will hold a day-long workshop with the State leaders and senior workers to discuss organisational issues related to the polls on Saturday.
Subsequently, Mr. Shah will be coming back to his home State for three days to oversee the poll preparations and also start the process of compiling a panel of names for each of the 182 seats.
The ruling BJP is already in the campaign mode six months before the polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the party’s campaign while attending a series of events last month.
He will be visiting the State on May 23 to attend the inauguration of the annual meeting of the African Development Bank in Gandhinagar and also attend another event in Kutch district.
