Authorities suspended the Amarnath yatra from the base camp in Jammu on Sunday for the second day, citing security reasons and bad weather along the route leading to the cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas.

A fresh batch of pilgrims was not allowed to proceed from the Bhagwati Nagar camp for onward journey due to security reasons in view of the Independence Day and also due to bad weather along the routes between Baltal and Nunwan camps in Pahalgam to the shrine, police said here.

This is the sixth time that the pilgrimage was halted since its commencement on June 30.

According to officials, over 4.50 lakh pilgrims have so far paid their obeisance at the shrine.
