Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Sukhpal Singh Khaira has accused Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh of going soft on corruption.

Sand mining issue

Mr. Khaira claimed that 40 days after submission of the report by the Narang Commission, set-up to look into allegations of corruption into sand mining, action is yet to be taken as per the panel’s directions.

Two weeks

The Leader of Opposition said the Commission had submitted it’s report to Captain Singh on August 10 and suggested that action be taken on the report within two weeks.

“Instead of taking action on the report, the government is making an attempt to push it under the rug,” adding that the Congress government should tell the people about the findings of the Narang Commission and also must make it public, said Mr. Khaira.

RTI Act

The Leader of the Opposition alleged that he applied to seek information regarding the findings of Justice Narang commission, under Right to Information (RTI) Act from the office of chief secretary of Punjab on August 14 but no information has been served till date.

‘Mockery of law’

“As per the RTI Act guidelines, the information asked has to be given within the time span of 30 days from the date of applying. Capt Amarinder Singh and his officers are making a mockery of law just to save corrupt minister,” added the Leader of the Opposition.
