The Mumbai Police on Monday arrested a 45-year-old ayurvedic chemist on the charge of raping a 14-year-old girl in suburban Bandra.

He will be produced in court on Tuesday, police spokesperson Ambadas Pote told The Hindu .

The girl mustered the courage to register a complaint on Monday, after which the police booked the accused and arrested him, Mr. Pote said.

As the police have slapped sections of the newly formulated Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and the victim’s family too has requested that all the details be kept under wraps, they cannot reveal any more information about the case.

“He has been booked on rape charge [Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code] and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act),” Mr. Pote said.
