Allahabad varsity students call off strike

Varsity officials agree to consider demand for offline examination

May 09, 2016 11:09 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 03:13 pm IST - LUCKNOW:

Allahabad University students protesting against the Central varsity’s imposition of online admission process for postgraduate courses felt a sense of victory on Monday as officials promised to consider their demands on the sixth day of their hunger strike.

Following the assurance of the varsity and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the students led by students’ union president Richa Singh ended the strike. “Our agitation was successful and the support from students from across groups has shown that they will not allow the dictatorship of the Vice-Chancellor. The V-C was hell-bent on imposing compulsory online admission and exam in the name of Digital India,” Ms. Singh said.

The hunger strike led to deterioration in the health of several students.
