A general alert has been sounded across western Uttar Pradesh even as a delegation of the National Minority Front, led by Mairazuddin Ahmed, urged Divisional Commissioner, Meerut, Manjit Singh to take strict action against the anti-India forces that had tried to fan communal passions by shooting at and critically injuring two Deoband students in the Chapar area on Friday.

One of the students, Mubarak, died in a Meerut hospital late on Saturday. The condition of Abu Azmi continued to be critical.

The Darul Uloom PRO Ashraf Haji, G.M. Mustaffa, president of the National Minority Front, Karmendra Singh, an academic, and Salim Siddiqui, a Congress leader, have urged Narendra Modi to rein in fascist forces.
