The Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday registered a case of cow slaughter against the family of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was lynched by a mob at his house in Dadri’s Bishahra village on the night of September 28, 2015.
>Acting on the order of Gautam Buddh Nagar court>, the police have booked six persons— Akhlaq’s wife Ikraman, his ailing mother Asghari, daughter Shaishta, son Danish, brother Jaan Mohammad and his wife — under several sections of the U.P. Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955, and the Animal Cruelty Act.
All the family members, except Jaan Mohammad, were present in the house when the angry mob dragged Akhlaq and Danish out and beat them with lathis, bricks and hockey sticks. Akhlaq died on the spot while Danish suffered multiple injuries on his head in the assault.
Danish and Shaista are two key eyewitnesses in the lynching case for which 18 people from Bishahra village, mostly their neighbours, have been charged with murder.
