Akhilesh to promote ‘green’ buses in U.P.

Powered by bio-ethanol, these buses will be introduced in phased manner

February 18, 2015 01:49 am | Updated 01:49 am IST - LUCKNOW:

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has asked the State transport department to look into the feasibility of introducing “green” buses in public transport, particularly in intra-city fleet of buses that runs of ethanol.

Mr. Yadav, who watched the demonstration of a bio-fuel bus manufactured by Swedish auto giant Scania, has asked the U.P. State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for operating the low-floor, environment-friendly bio-fuel buses in most polluted cities such as Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi, Allahabad and Moradabad.

“It has been decided to run these bio-ethanol fuel buses in Lucknow on a pilot basis...Survey of the route on which the bus will operate is being done. If there is positive response to the buses, more will be introduced in the State capital and then gradually introduced in major cities across the State,” a senior government official said.
