Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Thursday that he had ordered strict action against those behind the “forced conversion” of 56 Muslim families to Hinduism in Agra.
The Agra district administration was identifying the organisers. The Chief Minister, who was in Unnao for a function to lay the foundation stone of the Trans-Ganga Project, said he had ordered action immediately after the issue surfaced.
The statement of the complainant Ismail was recorded before a magistrate in Agra. Mr. Ismail lodged the complaint under sections 153 A and 415 of the Indian Penal Code at the Sadar Bazar police station in Agra on Tuesday against Kishori Lal Valmiki, who had allegedly offered inducements for converting the families from West Bengal.
The Uttar Pradesh police have decided to send a team to West Bengal for verification of their addresses, Inspector-General (Law and Order) A. Satish Ganesh told presspersons.
