Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav dismissed the Opposition charge that welfare schemes existing only on paper and said that the Samajwadi Party Government has worked ceaselessly for the welfare of all sections of the population. Mr. Yadav was particularly severe on the Bahujan Samaj Party accusing the previous Government of launching schemes only “for political gains”.
“In contrast, the Samajwadi Party has worked for the people”, Mr. Yadav emphasised in his reply on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s address in the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday. A total of 21 ruling party members spoke in favour of the Motion of Thanks with 42 Opposition MLAs speaking against the motion.Mr. Yadav took a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party for opposing his proposal of the legislators buying a vehicle from their “Vidhayak Nidhi” (Local Area Development Fund). The suggestion made in 2012 was hastily withdrawn.
Drawing a comparison between the State budget and the Union Budget, the Chief Minister said the budget of the Samajwadi Party Government followed the welfare path “without any discrimination”. Mr. Yadav emphasised that strong measures would be taken to maintain the law and order. He went on to lampoon the media for blowing the incidents, but not giving adequate coverage when action was taken.
