Ajmer blast probe: Gehlot refutes media reports

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday refuted the reports appearing in a section of the media that he had called for the files indicating the involvement of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh functionary Indresh Kumar in the Ajmer dargah blast in October 2007. “It is unfortunate that such reports are appearing. I have already made it clear that ATS in the State is doing its job. The Government has no involvement in the case,” he said.

Only two days back Mr. Gehlot had stated emphatically that the Rajasthan Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), which filed a charge sheet in a city court in Ajmer on Friday last had acted fully independently in the investigations and his Government did not interfere in the matter. He also said that the ATS did a good job in the investigations into the blast which had claimed three lives. He noted that the ATS must be having adequate evidence to prove the involvement of all those mentioned in the 806 page charge sheet, which talks about RSS functionary Indresh Kumar holding a meeting in Jaipur in 2005 with some of the conspirators in the case.

Asked about the uproar over the charge sheet in the Sangh circles Mr.Gehlot, talking to media persons after presiding over a meeting of his Council of Ministers in the evening, said: “Their disquiet is understandable. The RSS is unnerved about the disclosure on the involvement of its people. They are bound to react”.

However, Mr. Gehlot was rather uneasy about the reports of his summoning the files in this connection. “As I told you the matter is sub judice. This is a Congress-ruled State. Such things do not happen in Rajasthan…” he said once again trying to remove the misconceptions in this regard. “There is no truth in the reports of my asking for the files. The police is doing its job,” he said.

Senior RSS leader and editor of the Sangh mouthpiece Patheya Kan , Kanhaialal Chaturvedi charged that the Congress' attempt to drag the names of RSS functionaries in the blast case was due to a sense of insecurity created by the growing inclination of the Muslim community towards the Sangh. He alleged that Indresh Kumar was being framed by the police for his work among the Muslim population.
