In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav launched a slew of projects and laid the foundation for several others on Monday.
The projects include the North-South Corridor Depot of Lucknow Metro Rail, 1,820 government tubewells, strengthening of and repairs to 27 State roads, an inner ring road scheme for Agra and beautification of Tajganj, and 35 sports infrastructure projects.
At a function to launch the tubewells and begin work on 27 roads, the inner ring road and Tajganj development, Mr. Yadav derided the attempts by some belonging to the neighbouring States to undermine the importance of the Taj Mahal. “Many people and tourists don’t know that the Taj Mahal is in Uttar Pradesh.” It was part of a conspiracy by some who never wanted that the Taj publicised as a tourist destination.
Describing it as the biggest tourist centre, Mr. Yadav said the development of Tajganj would boost tourism.
On Sunday, Mr. Yadav launched the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project in Uttar Pradesh. He also laid the foundation for the first “early bird project,” Integrated Industrial Township, at Greater Noida under DMIC.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma was present.
A shareholders’ agreement for development of the township was signed between the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority and the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation.
