AGP announces first list of candidates in Assam

The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today announced its first list of candidates for 31 of the total 126 constituencies for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Assam.

Announcing the names of the candidates, party president Chandra Mohan Patowary told reporters that the list has been prepared keeping in mind the acceptance of the candidates among the people and their contribution to the society during the last few years.

“We conducted field survey, consulted party workers at the grassroot level and discussed it at all levels of the party to decide the names of the candidates,” he said.

The first list does not figure the names of any of the sitting MLAs, but has 15 new faces, including six, from its youth wing.

The candidature of the MLAs was being discussed and no decision had been taken yet and the next list of candidates would be announced soon, he said.
