After the recent makeover and construction of a second entry point, Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station will soon offer free wi-fi services to passengers. After New Delhi Railway Station, it will be the second railway station in the Capital to offer such services.

“Passengers would very soon get wi-fi facility at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. The services would be similar to the one at New Delhi Railway Station and the service will be provided by RailTel,” Arun Arora, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi told The Hindu .

RailTel is a Railway Public Sector Undertaking that provides telecom infrastructure. At the New Delhi Railway Station, passengers can enjoy up to 30 minutes of free wi-fi services by logging on to the RailTel connection. After 30 minutes, passengers can get scratch cards at wi-fi desks, one each of which are available at the Paharganj and Ajmeri Gate sides of the New Delhi Railway Station, for a nominal fee.

Similar facilities are expected to come up at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.

Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, one of the busiest in the city, caters to nearly 3.5 lakh passengers every day but has been in a poor shape compared to other railway stations in the city, mainly due to unavailability of space for expansion. The Delhi Division of Northern Railways, however, has been on a mission to give the station a makeover.

While the station’s primary entry point, towards Sarai Kale Khan, is rather nondescript, it has got a second entry point recently that is more swanky. Last month, the station got a makeover on the new Mathura Road side entry point, just in time for the launch of the Gatimaan Express, the country’s fastest train.

The station has now been provided with a spacious porch for easy access to station premises. The old railway station also got a new main concourse, which, along with the new porch, were inaugurated by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on April 5, on the day of the inaugural run of Gatimaan Express.

The main concourse has also been provided with counters for platform tickets, enquiry, May I Help You booths as well as offices for station manager, ticket checking staff etc.

The station will also soon get a new platform soon. There are also plans to connect the railway station to the Sarai Kale Khan Inter State Bus Terminus through a skywalk.

Plans for the skywalk and expansion of the station on the Sarai Kale Khan side, however, are stuck due unavailability of Railway land in the area. The land belongs to the Delhi government and talks are on to transfer it for redevelopment of the station.

Several refurbishment projects were completed in time for the launch of the Gatimaan Express
