All the three Service Chiefs have condemned the role of the officials involved in the Adarsh Society scam. They, however, pointed out that only 1 per cent of the officials were involved and that it was not the norm in the system.
“Our message to the young generations would be to not get influenced by this [scam], and to keep in mind that the maximum repository of loyalty, courage and camaraderie is still in the defence forces,” Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Pradeep Vasant Naik said.
Chief of the Army Staff General V. K. Singh said some people tend to deviate, but that was a miniscule amount. “Stand firm,” was his message to all who aspired to be a part of the armed forces.
Air Chief Marshal Naik, along with Admiral Nirmal Kumar Verma and General Singh, was addressing the media in the National Defence Academy (NDA) here on Saturday. The three were visiting the Hunter Squadron of the NDA, of which all of them were a part, in their cadet days in the 60s.
It is for the first time in the history of the NDA that all the three Service chiefs are hailing from the same squadron. The three men shared an evening in their alma mater, recollecting the days gone by.
Asked how coastal security following 26/11, Admiral Verma said the attack was a “wake up call,” and joint operation centres were functioning well. The number of maritime stakeholders had been considered. Biometric data of fishermen was being prepared, along with the census in the coastal areas. “By next year, the physical assets will increase too.”
Keeping in mind various threat perceptions, all the three forces were following a ‘capability-based approach,' the Chiefs said.
