August 20, 2009 01:19 pm | Updated 01:19 pm IST - Jammu:

Demanding setting up of a central university here, people took out a torch light rally defying prohibitory orders.

As 2,000 activists under the banner of Central University Andolan Samiti assembled at Geeta Bhawan to take out the procession last night, police tried to stop them in view of the prohibitory orders.

After a brief scuffle with the police, the activists paraded various roads and bye-lanes and raised anti-government slogans.

Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party has started a signature campaign over the issue.

College students are boycotting their classes in support of their demand in support of which a bandh was observed here on August 10.
